Pioneer Ocean View United Church of Christ, a multicultural, open and affirming church overlooking Mission Bay, is seeking an enthusiastic, creative Accompanist who has a love for music and a desire to use it to enrich the spiritual lives of others. The ideal candidate is a person of faith with strong keyboard skills, including the ability to accompany hymns and anthems, collaborate and accompany rehearsals with the Music Director and Choir. Relational skills and a good sense of humor help! This posting is for an interim position, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Responsibilities include serving as church pianist/organist for Sunday and special, seasonal worship services, and accompanist for choir, soloists and other special music in rehearsals and worship services. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in music, working knowledge of Christian music from traditional hymns to modern worship music, and a warm and encouraging attitude for musicians of all skill levels.  The organ in the sanctuary is a Rodgers 2 manual organ Model 807 and the piano
is a Yamaha digital piano with 127 different voices and goes perfectly with the Rodgers Organ.

We have one Worship Service on Sunday mornings at 10am, and our adult choir practices Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, and at 8:50 AM on Sunday mornings prior to Worship.

Organist/Choral Accompanist

Job Description:

8-10 hours per week. Salary commensurate with training and experience level.

Skills Needed:

  • Excellent sight-reading and musicianship
  • Experienced choral accompanist
  • Strong service music playing skills
  • Liturgical experience preferred
  • Ability to read pop-chord notation/lead sheets

Instruments:

  • 2 manual, 25 rank pipe organ by L.W. Blackinton & Associates
  • Hardman Grand Piano
  • Kurtzweil PC2x Digital Keyboard

Weekly Duties:

  • Prepare music for one Sunday worship service (9:30AM-11:00AM) including preludes, offertories, postludes, hymns, responses, choral anthems and other service music as needed.
  • Accompany Chancel Choir on piano/organ for 90-minute (7:00PM-8:30PM) Thursday evening rehearsals.
  • Accompany Worship Team on keyboard during Sunday worship service.
  • Submit to the church office manager titles and composers of preludes, offertories, and postludes weekly.
  • Cooperate and communicate with the Director of Music, Senior Pastor, and other church musicians to ensure an enriching worship experience each Sunday morning.

Other Occasional Duties:

  • Prepare music for occasional extra worship services/special music programs during Advent or Lent.
  • When a musician is needed for funerals, memorial services, or weddings, the church organist/choral accompanist will be given the option to offer his/her services. If unavailable, another accompanist will be retained by the church.

The organist/choir accompanist shall be faithful in preparation and performance, cooperating with others to provide and enable the highest standard of worship for First Presbyterian Church of El Cajon, its members, and the community.

Organist

St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Christian Church seeks an organist to play our 2 manual Allen Quantum organ for weekly rehearsals, 1 Sunday service a week, special church services, youth choir rehearsals, concert, and weddings. As a musician, it is preferred (not required) the organist have a degree in music, Liturgical experience, accompaniment experience, good site reading skills, dependable, diligent in preparation. This position reports to the Music Director of the parish.

Weekly Duties:

  • Choir Rehearsals once a week. (Typically on Thursdays, 7pm-9pm)
  • Sunday Services (Service begins at 9:50am - 12pm)
  • Rehearsal with Youth Choir (Generally Sundays from 12:20pm-1:30pm)
  • Some extra services may include, Holy Week, Christmas Eve or Day, and other Major Feast days of the church.
  • Provide organ music for weddings as scheduled and accompany Chanter. A separate fee is given for this service.

Compensation:

  • Part Time Position
  • Pay is commensurate with experience

Director/Pianist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Christian Fellowship Church seeks a Director/Pianist to lead our worship music, lead and direct our choirs, on 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays (4th Sundays are youth Sunday).

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • Must be able to play piano
  • Ability to sight read music and play the music as written, as well as improvise including Contemporary Gospel and Contemporary Christian (CCM) music
  • 3 years' experience in directing and playing
  • Able to play the organ is a plus
  • Strong vocal ability a plus

WEEKLY DUTIES:

Rehearsals are on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. On Sunday, there's a brief warm-up rehearsal from 10 to 10:25 AM. The service starts at 10:30 and ends at 12:00. It's basically singing the hymns, the Offering Anthem, doxology, 2 choir selections. and other very short selections of your choice
