Music Program Leader

St. Andrew's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church
1050 Thomas Ave
San Diego, CA 92109

St. Andrew's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in the Pacific Beach community of San Diego, CA, seeks a part-time Music Program Leader. At St. Andrew's by-the-Sea we believe a church should be a community that embraces the uniqueness of each individual. We worship with a relaxed reverence, singing a blend of hymns and songs, both ancient and modern. The congregation is eclectic in musical tastes, with interests including classical, contemporary praise, and folk music rooted in both Mexican and American traditions. Our congregational singing is based on the hymnal Worship & Rejoice (Hope Publishing) supplemented by music from a variety of other sources.

We seek a talented, joyful candidate to develop our music program and provide musical leadership in worship. Working collaboratively with the Rector and lay leadership, the chosen candidate will bring unique gifts, experience and vision to build and shape the music program at St. Andrew's by-the-Sea.

The ideal candidate will be skilled at providing a creative mix of blended music that makes Sunday morning worship inspiring and meaningful for those in attendance. This includes responsibility for music at the weekly 10 AM Sunday morning service, special services throughout the liturgical year, and coordinating with the music leaders of our noon bilingual service to provide music for periodic all-community bilingual and all-ages services at 10 AM.

The Music Program Leader must have a passion for and experience working with Sunday School and Preschool age groups, to include children in worship at special times throughout the year. Other responsibilities include hiring/engaging musicians as needed to encourage participants to use their vocal and instrumental musical gifts in worship. They will also network in the community, serving as the liaison between the church and outside musicians to promote use of our beautiful sanctuary and glorious musical acoustic.

We have two instruments in our acoustically live sanctuary: a 3 manual pipe organ and a Schafer and Sons Grand Piano.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

We invite you to learn more about us at If you feel called to this opportunity, kindly send a cover letter and resume to In your cover letter, please share why you would be a good fit for this calling and our community.

Application process closes November 23rd 2018. Our goal is to have the selected candidate in place by January 2019.
