We are looking for:

  • A Christ-centered and committed Christian, who will be a real minister of music.
  • A person who is competent in both piano and organ.
  • A person who appreciates and is proficient in both classical sacred music and contemporary church music.
  • A person who works well with people and can rehearse and lead the parish choir of six to twelve members.

Overview of Position:

  • Hourly wage of 30.00 per hour, not to exceed ten hours per week including preparation time, and paid vacation.
  • One Sunday service each week, plus Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, etc.
  • Weekly choir rehearsals (August through June) with parish choir and other groups to prepare Sunday anthems and seasonal music.
  • Coordination of special music events and concerts from time to time.
  • Additional stipend for weddings or funerals.

Organist

San Dieguito United Methodist Church located in the Southern California coastal city of Encinitas is an open and affirming church with a congregation of approximately 900 members. The motto of the Methodist Church, "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors" welcomes everyone regardless of age, race, education, economic status, marital status, sexual orientation or special needs. The church's music programs are an integral part of the weekly worship service. The Chancel Choir averages approximately 45 members accompanied by a Schantz Pipe Organ of 42 ranks or an eight-foot Yamaha grand piano.

The organist is responsible for playing the organ and/or piano for weekly services and Chancel Choir rehearsals. There are also occasional non-Sunday services including traditional Christmas Eve, Holy Week Services and others as determined by pastors as well as special concerts (usually choral/orchestral/organ) prepared and presented yearly.

The Salary for this professional part time position is commensurate with training and experience and is in the range of $24,000-$26,000.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Expertise and experience in supporting choral and instrumental music
  • Understanding of essential elements of traditional Christian worship
  • Experience as a participant in traditional Christian worship
  • Openness to different styles of choral and congregational music
  • Ability to function cooperatively with multiple church staff
  • Organization and communications skills appropriate to the job
  • Conversant in a wide range of sacred organ repertoire

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide organ and/or piano music for three weekly Church services
  • Select and prepare a prelude, offertory, postlude and other needed music for each service. Prepare accompaniment for anthems, responses and congregational hymns. Accompany for soloists and/or ensembles which participate in worship
  • Accompany the Chancel Choir at weekly rehearsals plus extra rehearsals at the direction of the Director of Music
  • Coordinate the maintenance of the church organ and grand piano
  • Work cooperatively with church staff and the appropriate committees in fostering worship excellence
  • Report to the appropriate committee on the condition and needs of the church organ
  • Play for and/or coordinate musicians for weddings and funerals held at the church
  • Perform other Duties as determined in collaboration with the Music Director

Organist

St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Christian Church

St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Christian Church seeks an organist to play our 2 manual Allen Quantum organ for weekly rehearsals, 1 Sunday service a week, special church services, youth choir rehearsals, concert, and weddings. As a musician, it is preferred (not required) the organist have a degree in music, Liturgical experience, accompaniment experience, good site reading skills, dependable, diligent in preparation. This position reports to the Music Director of the parish.

Weekly Duties:

  • Choir Rehearsals once a week. (Typically on Thursdays, 7pm-9pm)
  • Sunday Services (Service begins at 9:50am - 12pm)
  • Rehearsal with Youth Choir (Generally Sundays from 12:20pm-1:30pm)
  • Some extra services may include, Holy Week, Christmas Eve or Day, and other Major Feast days of the church.
  • Provide organ music for weddings as scheduled and accompany Chanter. A separate fee is given for this service.

Compensation:

  • Part Time Position
  • Pay is commensurate with experience

Assistant Organist

All Souls' Episcopal Church

All Souls' Episcopal Church seeks an assistant organist according to the following schedule and responsibilities:

WEEKLY SCHEDULE:

  • Thursday Rehearsals (Sept-May)
    • Choristers (4-5.30pm)
    • Parish Choir (7-9pm)
  • 2 Saturday Eucharists a month year round (5pm)
    • 1st & 3rd Saturdays, or 2nd & 4th Saturdays
  • Sunday Sung Eucharist year round (10.15am)
  • Choral Evensong (5pm: 3rd Sunday of each month Sept-May)
  • Additional services during Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, and other liturgical observances

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Principal accompanist for Parish Choir and Chorister Program
  • Provide repertoire and share service music responsibilities with Director of Music
  • Occasional conducting

PRINCIPAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Excellent sight-reading and musicianship
  • Experienced choral accompanist
  • Strong service music playing skills
  • Liturgical experience preferred

COMPENSATION:

  • Part-Time Position

MUSIC AT ALL SOULS' is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music and comprises the Parish Choir and Voice for Life Chorister Program, and includes the Fritts & Richards organ (Opus 5) which serves as the primary liturgical instrument of the parish.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Christian Fellowship Church seeks a Director/Pianist to lead our worship music, lead and direct our choirs, on 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays (4th Sundays are youth Sunday).

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • Must be able to play piano
  • Ability to sight read music and play the music as written, as well as improvise including Contemporary Gospel and Contemporary Christian (CCM) music
  • 3 years' experience in directing and playing
  • Able to play the organ is a plus
  • Strong vocal ability a plus

WEEKLY DUTIES:

Rehearsals are on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. On Sunday, there's a brief warm-up rehearsal from 10 to 10:25 AM. The service starts at 10:30 and ends at 12:00. It's basically singing the hymns, the Offering Anthem, doxology, 2 choir selections. and other very short selections of your choice
