San Dieguito United Methodist Church is seeking a visionary and talented Director of Music, who can build on the strong history of traditional liturgical ministry for our congregation and grow our program further. Our ideal Director of Music will be responsible for playing the organ for Sunday services and piano for Thursday evening Chancel Choir rehearsals; for worship planning in collaboration with the Director of Choirs and Pastors; for supervising and overseeing instrumental ensembles and guest musicians for holidays, special occasions, and over the summer; and for contributing to the recently re-established Concert Series with hymn festivals, organ recitals, or large collaborative performances.

ORGANIST

University City United Church

University City United Church has an opening for a person to provide keyboard music for our services, using our Allen Quantum Q345C organ and our Yamaha piano. Our congregation has a rich and diverse music tradition; our services are currently traditionally oriented. The successful candidate for this part-time position (approximately 8 hours per week) will have strong accompaniment skills and good people and communication skills. We are hoping for a long-term relationship with the successful candidate; our current organist has served the church for over 20 years.

We have one service per week (Sunday at 10:30); our organist also plays for choir practices on Thursday evening (7-9:30 PM).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High level of keyboard proficiency in a variety of musical styles (although strong competence in organ performance is preferred, outstanding pianists may be considered).
  • Experience in accompanying both soloists and group rehearsals.
  • Good people and communication skills.

ORGANIST

The Village Community Presbyterian Church

The organist serves as a crucial part of the thriving traditional music ministry of the Village Church which includes five choirs for adults, children and youth, a handbell choir, and a concert series. The Sanctuary was completed in 2008, followed shortly by the installation of the Austin-Allen organ, which has been featured the 2015 Regional Convention of the American Guild of Organists and the Spring Recital of the Palomar Chapter of the AGO. In addition to the Austin-Allen, the church also has an Allen MDS-25 in the Chapel, and possess a Yamaha CF, Bösendorfer, Steinway B and L, a Young and Chang, and a harpsichord by R.L. Black and Associates.

In addition to being the primary leader of congregational singing, and other instrumental music for worship, the organist serves as the accompanist to the Youth Choir, Chancel Choir, and the Village Community Chorale. Recent performances with orchestra include the Bach A minor Keyboard Concerto, Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio, and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass. Upcoming performances include the Brahms Requiem with special transcription of the wind parts for organ by James Vail. Members of the Chancel Choir will be making a 10 day Presbyterian Heritage Concert Tour of Scotland in June of 2017

Organist/Assistant Conductor

Primary Duties:

  • Play organ at all traditional worship services, including designated liturgical services throughout the year

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and 3 years minimum experience in sacred music

San Carlos United Methodist Church has an immediate opening for an Accompanist to play piano/organ for weekly rehearsals, Sunday services, and funerals/memorial services.  The Accompanist will prepare accompaniment for anthems, responses and congregational hymns for each service as well as periodically for Tuesday evening Vespers services. Candidates should have liturgical experience and understanding of traditional and modern Christian worship expressions.  As a musician, Accompanist must be extremely dependable, diligent in preparation and performance, and will cooperate with others to provide and enable the highest standard of worship within the church.
