A Practical Church Music Workshop
by Gordon Baker, M.S.M.

Brief discussion and commentary on the following subjects:

  • The history of the "worship of God" and its practice in Jewish and Early Christian culture; as opposed to the current trend in some church quarters of "entertaining the congregation" during the worship service
  • The communion service in protestant and Catholic worship from prelude through postlude
  • Sight-singing of interesting anthems, service music, and hymns as examples of worthy music to use in the church service
  • Topics which influence one's ministries
  • Support for time saving choir rehearsals
  • The education and experiences which most influenced and shaped Mr. Baker's long career in church music and teaching in parochial and private schools
  • Dr. Walter Whitehouse, former student of Mr. Baker, will speak briefly about the Sunday psalm and his new interesting and beautiful setting of the psalm for Pentecost Sunday.
