First UU Organ Fest

Please join Justin Murphy-Mancini and special guest Jennifer Bower for the First UU Organ Fest at First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego this August! After meeting at Oberlin Conservatory, Justin and Jenny collaborated frequently a duo partners and reunite this August to offer a wide variety of organ repertoire, from classic standards to lesser known gems. On Tuesday, August 21, they present "Bach and Other B's," examining repertoire beyond the so-called 3 B's (Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms). They continue on Thursday, August 23 with an all-French survey extending from sumptuous music for the court of Louis XIV to evocative contemporary trends in "Vive la France!" Finally, the series will conclude on Friday, August 24 with "Here's to the Women," featuring a world premiere organ duo by German composer Eva-Maria Houben alongside must-hear pieces by women composers throughout history. All of these programs will include beautiful but lesser-known music that will be of special interest for use both at church and in concerts. A free-will offering (suggested donation $15) will be taken to support the maintenance of the 1970 Abbott & Sieker/Marceau organ as it nears its 50th anniversary. We hope you will join us for this festival celebrating music-making at First UU Church. All programs begin at 7 pm and will include light refreshments. Families welcome!
