AGOSD presents: Spreckels Day at the Park
AGOSD presents: Spreckels Day at the Park
This Sunday, November 3, at 3pm, the San Diego Chapter will meet at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. We will be joined by Organ Stop Club players and members of the Theatre Organ Society of San Diego. If you wish, come at 2:00 and hear Raul's one-hour organ recital. Following that performance, Spreckels Organ Curator, Dale Sorenson, will take us on a tour of this historic instrument, the world's largest outdoor organ. He will share some history of the organ and give you an opportunity to see it up close on the stage.
We know the idea of playing this instrument may be intimidating, but you are welcome to try it briefly. In order to allow more people the opportunity to play, we are imposing a strict five minute time limit, including set-up time. Dale and George Butterfield can assist you with classical registrations. Russ Peck has kindly agreed to demonstrate the "theatre" side of the organ and will provide his personal theatre registrations for you to use.
Since the weather is a bit unpredictable this week, make sure to dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes if you wish to stand on the stage to see the organ up close.
Chapter co-deans Cheryl and Wayne will provide bottled water, cookies and encouragement.
Please RSVP at your earliest convenience if you wish to join us for this rare opportunity. If you also wish to play, please indicate that in your RSVP to clsorgan@aol.com.
