Get Off That Bench: A Conducting Workshop for Keyboardists
Get Off That Bench: A Conducting Workshop for Keyboardists
Modern keyboardists are expected to master a wide range of skills, from sight-reading open scores in rehearsal to playing Bach and gospel within the same worship service. One common request is for the accompanists to conduct. However, what if this skill is, in fact, hindered by your comfortability at the keyboard? San Diego Chapter member and Director of Worship at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church, Liz Virkler, leads a workshop focused on practical choral conducting skills, tips and tricks to make vital connections with your ensembles and increase your comfortability stepping away from the piano or organ to direct.
In this two-hour workshop format, everyone has the opportunity to conduct in a supportive and encouraging environment. An accompanist and lab choir comprised of volunteer singers will be on hand. If you would like to be assigned a piece to conduct, please email liz.virkler@gmail.com by October 26th.
We hope you will please join us for this fun and informative event! Think outside of the box and get outside your comfort zone, you're sure to learn a lot. Please stay tuned for details regarding our social "happy hour" immediately following the event where we will gather to reflect on what we learned, make connections, and enjoy some fellowship!
