St. James Music Series presents: GARRETT F. MARTIN, "The Phantom of the Opera"
Long before the age of special effects and AI, Hollywood produced silent films designed to be accompanied by the organ. These improvised scores showcased the drama of each scene and knit together the plot in a unique musical way. Go back in time this Halloween weekend to watch the classic 1925 film, The Phantom of the Opera, come to life on St. James’ silver screen. Organist, Garrett F. Martin will improvise the score as the movie unfolds at the keyboards of St. James’ new Rosales/Parsons Organ. Experience all the organs dramatic colors in this uniquely fun performance.
The American Organist wrote “…impressively played…masterfully improvised…” Since 2013, Martin has served as the Organist and Director of Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Buffalo, New York, where he directs and oversees the church’s choirs, plans worship and liturgy, sees to the maintenance of the two Aeolian-Skinner organs and 5 Steinway grand pianos, coordinates Westminster Presents and visiting artists, and conducts and plays all weekly worship and special services. He holds degrees from Carson-Newman University, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Texas, Austin, where he studied with the famed improviser, Gerre Hancock.
